Canford School has a long list of achievements that they credit for their outstanding academic results. The school consistently ranks among the top co-educational independent schools in the country and has received an outstanding rating from Ofsted. Canford was one of four finalists for "Public School of the Year" in the Tatler School Awards in 2014 and again in 2016, and it won the title in 2019.

Canford School is one of only four schools in the UK with a real tennis court (the others are The Oratory, Radley, and Wellington College), and it has a long list of extracurricular achievements in sports and other extracurricular activities. It stands out from the other schools because it was originally built as a country house in 1879, as opposed to the others, which have all been newly constructed for the schools since 1990. The Canford School Boat Club, an active rowing organization with a base on the River Stour, is affiliated with the school. The club, which is associated with British Rowing (boat code CAN), has produced three British champion crews, competing at the British Rowing Championships in 2002, 2008, and 2010.
