School History & Details

On July 5, 1880, Capalaba State School started on Mount Cotton Road with 22 students and a single instructor. The school expanded quickly, with an average of 43 students enrolled in 1884. Capalaba fostered a thriving timber business during this period, but when it waned, families left the district, and the school was shut down in 1922. The school had to restart in 1923 due to local support. In 1925, Mr. Tom McGrath was named Headmaster and stayed for 27 years. The school relocated to its current location in 1959, and by 1970, it had grown to 338 students. Capalaba State School and Capalaba State High School merged to become Capalaba State College in 2005.
