The first Montessori school in Cardiff was established in 2016 as Cardiff Montessori School. Dr. Maria Montessori, a pioneer in child development and three-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, created the Montessori method. The school works to develop students who are academically excellent, emotionally and socially stable, have life skills, are global citizens, and have a sense of spirituality and purpose. developing resilient, self-directed, and socially conscious students.

The heart of a Cardiff Montessori School education is the development of independence and life skills. Children start making their own lunches at age 2, arrange their own outings at age 6, and operate their own business at age 13. Being the first Montessori senior school in Wales, Cardiff Montessori School is delighted. They are now taking on secondary pupils. As more pupils graduate from the primary school, so does the school. Secondary students are a part of a mixed-age classroom, much like all Montessori classes. The term "seniors" refers to the year 7 kids who are admitted to the upper elementary classroom. Students then enter Cardiff Montessori High between Year 8 and Year 10. ​
