The beginning of Cariboo Adventist Academy's history can be found in the camps of the Cariboo region's lumberjacks. Dan Basaraba and the Jacobson brothers got involved in establishing timber camps and sawmills in the Cariboo region starting in 1954, particularly in places like Beaver Valley, Williams Lake, and Horsefly. They observed the Sabbath since they were Seventh-day Adventists, which meant that their enterprises also did. Many other Adventists were drawn to their companies and families because they could work jobs that did not involve observing the Sabbath, and soon there were kids in need of training.
