The school was founded on January 1, 1917, and commenced operations on January 30, 1917, with an initial enrollment of 62 to 64 students, under the leadership of head teacher Charles Briggs. He served in this role until his passing in 1944. The construction of the school incurred a cost of £1,493 and was executed by Jay Labour. Upon its inauguration, the institution consisted of a single building, which remained unchanged until just before the onset of World War II, when a second building was added. The formal inauguration of the school occurred on March 10, 1917, with John Story, the Under-Secretary of the Education Department, officiating the event, as the Minister, Herbert Hardacre, was unable to attend due to flooding in Clermont. At that time, the school had an enrollment of 63 to 68 students, with an average daily attendance of 60 pupils throughout February.
