School History & Details

The origins of Carleton House Preparatory School date back to the early 1970s when a group of parents formed it following the shutdown of Woolton Hall Preparatory School. The founding goal was to maintain the distinct customs and principles of a specialized Catholic preparatory institution. From its inception, the school has shown dedication towards outstanding academic achievement and fostering a constructive and validating pastoral setting.

  • Honesty
  • Carleton House Preparatory School firmly believes in and effectively carries out its mission of encouraging students to develop a passion for learning. This approach doesn't merely focus on imparting knowledge for the sake of academic accomplishment but is a holistic endeavor aiming at developing intellectual curiosity in every learner. This characteristic not only triggers a genuine interest in diverse subjects but also encourages a desire for independent thinking and problem-solving.  Furthermore, the school aspires to widen the cultural horizons of the students, which entails inculcating in them a deep respect for multiculturalism and promoting intercultural understanding. This educational ethos underpins every facet of life at Carleton House. It strives to give students exposure to diverse cultures, ideas, and perspectives which significantly broadens their worldview.  This broader perspective provides the young learners with the foundation for becoming tolerant, understanding, and appreciative of other cultures and ideologies. It's also instrumental in equipping them with the adaptability skills necessary to navigate through an increasingly interconnected global society.  Therefore, through its effective teaching methodology and a culturally diverse curriculum, Carleton House Preparatory School succeeds in making its pupils fall in love with the learning process. It shapes young minds to become enthusiastic learners, creative thinkers, and responsible global citizens.

In summary, Carleton House Preparatory School places great emphasis on its three main educational pillars: fostering a love for learning, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and expanding cultural understanding. All these objectives have been successfully implemented, thus shaping an effective and holistic learning environment.

School Achievements

Achievements

While all subjects from the National Curriculum are covered to provide a comprehensive, balanced curriculum, we put a special focus on Maths and English, understanding that proficiency in these subjects underpins success in other areas. They offer specialized teaching for those who require additional support in these basic subjects. Spanish is taught from Nursery through to Year 6. Moreover, we provide curriculum music lessons taught by specialist teacher. From Year 3 onwards, pupils can take advantage of instrumental music lessons from our external partner, Pulse, with individual piano and guitar lessons available as well. From Years 3 to 6, students participate in weekly swimming and gym lessons at a local pool. They also place a high priority on academic excellence, preparing children for different Entrance exams at the age of 11. As a result, a large portion of students secure spots at the selective schools of their choice. Finally, to develop their public speaking skills, students in Years 5 and 6 are prepared for and participate in the English Speaking Board (ESB) examinations.
