Founded around 1903 by Constance Stanford, Carncot Independent School started above William Park's stationery shop on Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North. The school relocated several times until settling in the Fitzherbert homestead at 263 Broadway Avenue in 1955. In 1998, the homestead was moved forward, and a new school was built to accommodate growth, including a gymnasium in 2003. Originally a girls-only school, it admitted boys in 2013, becoming fully co-educational from Years 1 to 8. Governed by the Carncot Trust Board, the school staff includes a principal, associate principal, nine teachers, and a seven-member administration team.
