Although Catherine McAuley welcomes students at any point during the academic year, the formal enrolment period for the subsequent year usually begins in March. Following receipt, an application is added to the year group's waiting list and will be considered alongside other applicants when a position opens up. Positions are decided based on enrolment requirements rather than waiting list duration. Students on visas who share their Catholic faith and culture may be eligible for a limited number of spots in schools within the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. As of right now, diocesan Catholic schools are unable to accept students with visa subclass 500.
