    School Values

  • Respect
  • Love
  • Empathy
  • The Māori concepts listed below describe our values.  Words alone are not as strong as conceptual values.  Our principles embody a manner of being.

An intense sense of identity is whanaungatanga.  We are aware of our identities, cultures, and beliefs. We also realize that we belong in the school community.

The term "kaitiakiatanga" refers to our role as environmental guardians, or kaitiaki.  At Chelsea, we are fortunate to have areas of natural bush inhabited by a variety of natural species.  We think that every generation has a responsibility to look out for and preserve our environment.

The main goal of manaakitanga is to keep other people's hearts and mana safe.  The subject of this value is the importance of treating everyone with respect, love, and empathy.  To provide everyone with a feeling of belonging also entails extending a warm welcome to guests and whānau.

Reciprocity is aka.  Everyone values the knowledge that both we and others can gain from one another.  We are experts in different domains due to our diverse experiences.  We respect our opinions and expertise.
