School History & Details

Juan Pías and Dolores Peleteiro created the school in 1985. César Portela, an architect, designed the college building in 1984. It is positioned on a hilltop that was most likely formerly home to a pre-Roman encampment, hence the name Chester (from the Old English coaster). From the start, its educational mission was international, and it was the first international school in the Spanish province of Galicia. The school can initially manage students with varying levels of English and Spanish, or no Spanish at all, and gradually progress to a bilingual 50:50 curriculum, based on the student's grade upon enrollment, as well as his or her aims and expectations. From Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, they try to give children an excellent academic and human education within a framework of immersion in English and Spanish and individualized attention.
