Founded in 1862, Clifton College is a public school in Bristol, South West England, that provides day and residential options for students. Established by industrialists from Bristol, Clifton was headed by Dr. John Percival, an educated and imaginative Head Master who supported science, women's education, and ethnic tolerance. Being a Victorian ahead of his time, he designed a school where the teaching, library, and chapel were the focal points of our private education, with the goal of producing "children of varied but definite character." Adjacent to the school and using many of the same facilities is Clifton College Preparatory School, popularly known as the "Pre," for students ages 8 to 13. Butcombe is a pre-prepatory school for younger students, ages 3 to 8.
The purpose of Clifton College Preparatory School is to encourage every child to take advantage of opportunities for learning and to reach their greatest potential by embracing life with spirit, integrity, and resilience and by positively impacting the lives of others.
