Commonwealth Secondary School (CWSS) is a government, autonomous, coeducational secondary school located in Jurong East, Singapore. Commonwealth Secondary School, founded in 1964, provides secondary school education leading to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level or Singapore-Cambridge GCE Normal Level examination. Tanglin Integrated Vocational Secondary School was established in 1964, and Tanglin Secondary School became an academic school in 1969. Because it was located near Commonwealth Drive, the name was altered again in 1972 to Commonwealth Secondary School. The school moved to Jurong East in 1989 and served as a neighborhood school in the Hong Kah constituency for seven years before relocating to Jurong East Street 24 in the Yuhua constituency at the end of 1995. In November 2006, the school relocated to its new site on West Coast Road. On July 11, 2008, the new campus's official opening ceremony took place. Commonwealth Secondary has been an autonomous school since 1995, owing to its academic achievements and achievement in co-curricular initiatives. Commonwealth Secondary has also been a Higher Chinese Centre since 1995, providing to students in the West District who want to study Higher Chinese Language (HCL). In terms of academics, Commonwealth, in addition to being a Higher Chinese Centre, has been delivering Higher Malay and Higher Tamil to its students since 2006. Economics, a humanities subject, has been offered to Secondary 3 pupils since 2006.
