School History & Details

In 1542, Dauntsey's School was established in West Lavington, Wiltshire. In the historic structure that still stands in West Lavington's High Street next to the church, the school first opened its doors in 1553. Adam Waters was the first master. In 1912, at the north end of the school, a new wing was constructed. As a result, there was a combined museum and library with masters' lodging above. A gathering space for indoor games was converted from the former museum. A tuck shop was established. The name was changed to Dauntsey's School in 1923, and the first inter-house competitions were held. in 1954 opening of new educational facilities with five classrooms.  The school today is a well-known school in the nation.

    School Values

Dauntsey's School is vibrant, inventive, and compassionate. It is a joyful setting with a strong sense of family where independent thought, a spirit of adventure, spirituality, social responsibility, and moral principles are promoted. The school works to provide good value for money since it understands that sending their children to this institution frequently entails significant financial sacrifices from the parents. Privilege is not assumed or taken for granted. The unique culture at Dauntsey's is centred on friendship—friendships between students, friendships amongst staff, and friendships between students and staff. Decency, excellent manners, and traditional values are important. Parents and alumni are treated with the same openness and respect as everyone else.
