School History & Details

Dilworth School was established by the terms of the will of Irish-born James Dilworth, an early Auckland farmer and businessman who died in 1894. The endowment was intended to support a boarding school for boys from good families whose circumstances may hinder them from reaching their full potential. His incredible legacy has provided over 5,000 boys with a life-changing scholarship that includes free tuition, boarding, uniforms, sports expenses, and music tuition over a century later. Dilworth has three campuses in Auckland: the Junior Campus houses our Year 7 and 8 students, the Senior Campus houses Years 9 to 13, and all of the students visit our Mangatwhiri Campus annually for varied lengths.  Supporting the overall growth of the student is an essential component of the Dilworth experience. Students are provided with a wide range of options, as well as a solid pastoral care system and high-quality instruction. The modern boarding school environment is an excellent setting for pupils to develop relationships and rapport. The sense of belonging and oneness is palpable. Dilworth is a Christian institution. The Christian faith pervades all aspects of educational life.
