School History & Details

Ireland's network of Dominican Schools and Colleges has a long history of education. Christian principles have been transmitted in novel ways to every generation that has come after. At the start of a new millennium, with its sophisticated technology and innovative ways to disseminate information, they see how these tools might help them carry on creating a community oriented around Christ. Dominican College is a voluntary grammar school that is coeducational and Catholic. The Dominican Sisters established it as a school for girls in 1917 after purchasing the breathtaking property that was once known as "O'Hara's Castle." The school started as a coeducational institution in 1968 and has progressively increased to accommodate more than 660 students. Over the next few years, it is anticipated that the student body will reach 675.

  • Dominican College look for to establish environments that encourage thoughtfulness and reverence for God's offerings. They declare that every aspect of creation, including humans created in God's image, is fundamentally good. "Fill your minds with everything that is good." Motivated by these statements as well as the Parable of the Talents they offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes – an awareness of the unique gifts that each student possesses; an appreciation of the fact that no two students will pursue academic excellence in the same way; a thoughtful approach to competition; and a persistent endeavour to integrate faith and culture in such a way that Christian growth and intellectual development go hand in hand. Fundamental principles that create a school community characterised by a spirit of love, trust, and forgiveness
