Dwight School is a private, autonomous, for-profit college prep school on Manhattan's Upper West Side in New York City.Dwight offers the International Baccalaureate Curriculum to kids aged 2-12. Dwight School, founded in 1872 by Julius Sachs as part of the Sachs Collegiate Institute, was first known as "The Sachs School," then The Franklin School. It moved from West 34th Street and Broadway to 18 West 89th Street in 1912 after multiple relocations due to growth. Sachs, a well-known educator and novelist from the Goldman-Sachs family, led the school until his appointment as Professor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, in 1901. In 1993, Dwight School joined with Franklin School, which had adopted the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme in 1980. The school relocated from 402 East 67th Street to 291 Central Park West. Dwight School is the first school in North America to provide the whole International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum from preschool to grade 12. Currently, one-third of Dwight's students come from abroad.
