In 1820, Eagle House was established in Hammersmith's Brook Green. Following a significant fire in 1886, it relocated to its current location in Sandhurst. It had previously lived in a house at Wimbledon called Brackenbury's. Dr. James Russell, a surgeon, a local medical officer of health, and a public vacciner, constructed the current structure. Up until 1968, the school was owned by successive headmasters until being purchased by Wellington College. When Crowthorne's Bigshotte School closed in the 1970s, many of the students and some staff members joined Eagle House, more than doubling the number of students enrolled there. Buildings and facilities were built as the school expanded. In the 1990s, Eagle House opened a Pre-Prep for both boys and girls, followed by a Nursery called The Nest. Today, it operates as a successful 3–13 coed day and boarding school.
