Bertil Hult established EF in 1965, believing that immersion and hands-on experiences are the most effective ways for people to learn. He struggled with traditional classroom learning as a dyslexic high school student in Sweden, but he recognized during a summer work in England that he was picking up English naturally by living it rather than studying it. This prompted him to be one of the early pioneers of immersion learning. Thanks to the power of immersion learning, EF enables people all over the world to explore new places and cultures while learning more about the world and themselves. Today, EF teachers and team members work in schools and admissions offices in over 50 countries, but they all share the same 60-year mission: to open the globe through education by breaking down the language, cultural, and geographical obstacles that divide us.
