School History & Details

In order to explore the creation of a parents and citizens branch to represent the interests of Forrest School, interested parties were gathered at Telopea Park School on February 18, 1957, by Mr. H. Williams, the first principal of Forrest School. The committee debated and chose the school's colours and uniform at some of its early sessions. Red and gold were declared to be Forrest's school colours by headmaster Mr. Williams. The official opening day of of the school was April 4, 1958. The school bears the name of Sir John Forrest (1847–1918), a well-known Australian with a strong sense of purpose, an open mind, and adaptability who was also a leader, explorer, politician, visionary, debater, surveyor, administrator, and geographer. He is most known for having scoured large areas of Western Australia in quest of the elusive explorer Leichhardt. In the late 1800s, he served as Western Australia's premier in addition to being involved in state and federal politics.
