German School Johannes Gutenberg opened in Prospect on February 7, 1989, with 28 pupils in grades kindergarten through fourth. Moved to Ryde in January 1992, accommodating 79 kids in 8 courses. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, which offers a comprehensive education from preschool to year 12, was first made available in 2002. The school was later renamed as German International School Sydney.
