The idea for Good Shepherd Lutheran College was initiated in late 1995, resulting in the establishment of a School Task Force that included representatives from the two Lutheran congregations in Darwin. This group identified the necessity for alternative educational options within the rapidly expanding Palmerston community. In 1998, Good Shepherd Lutheran College launched its inaugural junior school in Palmerston, starting with a mere 18 students. Over the years, the institution has experienced significant growth, now encompassing three campuses and serving over 1,200 students. As the student population increased, the college expanded accordingly. Between 2007 and 2009, Good Shepherd Lutheran College inaugurated a middle school, followed by a senior school campus in Howard Springs. In 2015, a merger with St Andrew Lutheran School in Leanyer resulted in the creation of a third campus, which was renamed 'Good Shepherd Lutheran College' to maintain consistency with the Palmerston and Howard Springs campuses. The college currently consists of three Junior Schools located in Palmerston, Howard Springs, and Leanyer, in addition to the Howard Springs Middle/Senior School.
