School History & Details

German educationalist Dr. Kurt Hahn founded Gordonstoun in 1934. One of the first public schools to fully embrace co-education was Gordonstoun in 1972. Since Gordonstoun had its own fire engine, a few of the first females admitted went on to become some of the first female firefighters in the UK. In addition, Gordonstoun started one of the most renowned summer school courses. It is still renowned for its emphasis on character education, and studies from Edinburgh University have demonstrated the long-term advantages of this unusually comprehensive curriculum.
