Gresham's Nursery And Pre-Prep School is a school with a rich history dating back to the 16th century. The school was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham who saw a need for education for the local children after Henry VIII's suppression of the monasteries. Sir John Gresham converted Holt's Manor House into a Free Grammar School and named it after himself. The school remained in the heart of Holt for over three hundred years, surviving the Great Fire of 1708 that destroyed most of medieval Holt. The building was enlarged and refurbished during Victorian times and it still exists today, now known as the Old School House, and currently serves as the home to our Pre-Prep School. At the turn of the 20th century, Gresham was refounded under the direction of a new and innovative headmaster named George Howson. The School moved to the current site on the edge of Holt and adopted a more progressive curriculum. This new curriculum embraced the sciences, encouraging independent thought, and creativity among its pupils. Gresham's has come a long way since its inception and has embraced its rich history while evolving with the changing times. It remains a testament to the importance of education and continues to shape the minds of young children, just as it did over 400 years ago.
