In 1867, the farmer, teacher, and Mennonite preacher Michael Löwenberg established a higher educational institution on the Weierhof for boys of all denominations to acquire a Christian-based general education over three or four years. At the end of the nineteenth century, the school was regarded as one of the most significant boarding schools in the Palatinate. In 1970, the 5-day week and all-day school were adopted, with the goals of providing more extensive professional assistance from instructors and introducing useful leisure activities. At the time, all-day schools were the exception to the educational reality in Rhineland-Palatinate.
