A group of evangelical Christians created Headington School Oxford in 1915 with the goal of giving girls "a sound education to fit them for the demands and opportunities likely to arise after the war." With only ten boarding and eight-day girls, the School got its start at Headington Lodge on Osler Road. The main school had its official opening in 1950.
Headington School Oxford will increase the breadth of choice for the girls to enable them to take a path that both matches their academic objectives and meets their natural curiosity and passions, building on strong academic foundations and a multitude of sporting and co-curricular activities on offer. They will encourage students to take calculated chances, to welcome the learning opportunities that come from failing in a supportive environment, and to welcome opportunities for problem-solving that may be resolved via innovative thinking and teamwork with others. Girls will graduate from Headington with much more than simply top grades and admission to a prestigious university; she will also be an intellectually curious, emotionally secure, and socially responsible person with a strong sense of self and a lifetime passion for learning.
