School History & Details

The establishment of the Parish of Holy Trinity, Curtin, took place on February 2, 1965, under the leadership of His Grace Archbishop O'Brien. This Parish encompassed the Woden Valley, which included only the suburbs of Hughes and Curtin. Father Benedict Lynch was designated as the Parish Priest. Holy Trinity School was inaugurated and blessed on October 23, 1966, marking a significant milestone as it became the first Australian Catholic Primary School to be built with the assistance of Commonwealth capital funding. The inaugural teaching staff at Holy Trinity comprised Sister Conrad (Matilde) Harnischfeger, Sister M. Esther (Helen) Dean, Sister M. Pierina (Valerie) Green, and Shirley Matthews, who was the sole lay teacher. The founding community of the Sisters of Charity initially resided at Dawson Street, Curtin, for several months until their convent was established at 22 Theodore Street, adjacent to the school. This community included the teaching Sisters as well as Sister Joan McKenna, who taught at St Clare’s College, Griffith.
