Initially established in 1941 as a Gujarati-language school for the children of businesspeople. As Indian School Muttrah, with English as the primary language of instruction, it started to take on its current form in 1987. When it moved into its new facilities in September 1993, it was given the name Indian School AL Wadi Al Kabir due to its location. In December 1992, the school received composite affiliation up to grade X, in 1999, the senior secondary level was added.
