The Indian School Salalah is a coeducational, Indian-run, self-financing institution that was founded mainly to serve the educational needs of Indian expatriate children employed in the Persian Gulf Sultanate of Oman. Children from other countries are admitted to the school as well. The school may be found in Salalah town's Dahariz neighborhood in the southern governorate of Dhofar. Oman's industrial expansion was strong during the 1970s and 1980s due to the oil boom. This necessitated additional employment, which was primarily filled by Indian workers with work permit visas. Due to the lack of Indian academic resources at the time, this community was unable to bring their children from India. The Indian community in Salalah formed an Indian club and petitioned Qaboos bin Said al-Said, the Sultan of Oman, on their behalf. In 1981, he was permitted to erect a tiny structure in the Haffa neighborhood next to the Indian Club. The school only offered classes up till class four at first, but each year they added one.
