Academically, Johnston Heights Secondary has encouraged school maths competitions, and school speech competitions and sent students to provincial debate competitions in Victoria, Prince George, and Vancouver. For seniors, Johnston Heights offers French, Spanish, and language challenge courses.

Johnston Heights Secondary is proud of a variety of extracurricular achievements besides academics.  The school also hosts winners of Canadian Artist, Math, Music, and Science competitions, as well as science festivals and musical and theatrical performances. The Johnston Heights choir participated in the Whistler Choir Festival and earned a top choir placement there as well.
