Educating "the whole girl" has been the Kambala community's mission since our pioneering days in the 1887. Kambala School started out as a modest class of twelve girls taught by Miss Louisa Gurney, an English clergyman's daughter, in a Woollahra terrace house. Mademoiselle Augustine Soubeiran eventually joined Louisa and took on the role of Co-Principal. In 1891, the school relocated to "Kambala," a larger location in Bellevue Hill. With approximately 50 students enrolled in 1913, the school relocated once more to its present location on New South Head Road in Rose Bay.
The goal of Kambala School is to inspire and support each girl in realizing her greatest potential for both academic and personal success. They foster a culture of creativity and change while upholding their Anglican traditions and legacy. As a community, they value inclusivity, celebrate variety, and recognize our ability to change the world. The values they inculcate are as follows:
Humanity
Courage
Respect
Curiosity
