School History & Details

Kelston Girls' College was founded in 1954 as a mixed-gender school. It grew so quickly that by 1959, students were separated on separate sites, and Kelston Girls was officially formed in 1963. Kelston Girls' High School has long provided a clear educational option for young women. It was and still is Waitakere's only state secondary school for young people, with a strong heritage of achievement in academic, cultural, and sporting pursuits that students, staff, and alumna can be rightfully proud of. In 2019, Kelston Girls' College achieved an excellent Education Review Office rating, which stated that our curriculum fosters "a positive school culture that responds to students' needs, promotes their wellbeing, and supports their learning success." Kelston Girls celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2004.  To plan for the next 50 years, the Board decided to alter its name in cooperation with the community. Kelston Girls' College is the new name for the school.
