As a missionary for the Zenana Bible and Medical Mission, Miss Alice Kimmins traveled to India in 1886. She moved to Bombay after serving well in Lahore and Benares, where she oversaw the Girgaum Girl's School, which is today known as Queen Mary's School, from 1892 to 1899. The climate of Bombay was not ideal for the children of European descent. In order to continue her efforts to educate youngsters of European origin, she made the decision to go to Panchgani. Miss Kimmins had a great impact on her students, who always appreciated and treasured the lessons she gave them. "It was her daily prayer that her girls should grow into fine noble women who love Christ and be useful in the world," stated a person who knew her well. Her prayers did not go unanswered. She was well-liked by the teachers at her school. Miss Kimmins always treated her teachers with respect; their joys and sorrows were her own, and she referred to them as "Co-workers."
