King Edward VI High School for Girls application requirements are as follows:

Girls with the most potential to benefit from a King Edward VI High School for Girls curriculum are given preference for admissions. Their goal at KEHS is to provide each and every one of their students with an unparalleled and unique education that is marked by academic instruction that is both demanding and forward-looking, provided in a caring and supportive setting, and rich with extracurricular opportunities that help students grow as people and gain new perspectives. In addition to helping students excel academically, they also want to help them develop into strong, self-reliant young women who are prepared for the future. They typically accept applications for entry into Years 8 or 9, if space permits, but their regular entry points are at the beginning of Years 7 and 12.

There are two papers in the entrance exam: one in maths and one in English. The purpose of the English paper is to evaluate a candidate's writing and reading comprehension as well as to uncover potential. The purpose of the mathematics paper is to assess the candidate's application and usage of basic arithmetic operations through a sequence of questions of differing lengths.  

The results of their daughter's application, including whether or not they have been awarded a spot, a scholarship, an assisted place, or are on the reserve list, are sent to all parents via postal mail.
