The King's College was established in 1896 by Graham Bruce, often informally referred to simply as King's, and in New Zealand is an independent secondary boarding and day school. Over 1000 pupils it educates, aged 13 to 18 years. A single-gender boys school King's was originally but since 1980 King's has admitted girls in the Sixth and Seventh forms (Years 12 and 13), and since 2016 in the Fifth form (Year 11). In Remuera, Auckland King's was originally situated on the site now occupied by King's School, Remuera, in 1922 to its present site in the South Auckland suburb of Ōtāhuhu the school moved.

The Anglican church; the Anglican Bishop of Auckland the school has strong links, and the school's Board Of Governors and the Dean of Auckland are permanent members. The College is a member of the Round Square group. In 2021 King's celebrated its 125th anniversary, while in 2020 the 40th anniversary of girls attending King's was celebrated.

The King's College has a history of academic excellence. Here are some of the school's academic achievements:- 1. NCEA and CIE: According to the Education Review Office, King's College students achieve high levels of academic success in the National Certificates of Educational Achievement (NCEA) and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). 2. Cambridge Learner Awards: In 2020, King's College students were recognized for their success in Cambridge examinations. 3. Australian Mathematics and NZ Economics Competitions: Wells Yuan, a Year 13 student at King's College, received a High Distinction in these competitions and placed 9th in the 2022 North Island Senior Division. 4. IMO: A large proportion of King's students attend the New Zealand training camp for the International Mathematical Olympiad, one of the most prestigious academic competitions for high school students in the world, etc.

In the 1A Rugby Competition, King's College competes and has won 16 times, most recently in 2019. In New Zealand schoolboy rugby the annual King's College v Auckland Grammar School rugby game is one of the oldest rivalries. In consecutive years between 2009 and 2011 the King's 1st XI Cricket team won the Gillette Cup, producing notable cricketers with the most recent being Tim Southee. Here are some other non-academic achievements of King's College:- 1. Rugby: A student was selected for the Auckland representative rugby team in 2006–2007. 2. Obstacle course: The 2021 King's Collegian included a 25-obstacle course, including a 4-meter wall, cargo net, and barbed-wire crawl. 3. Original story: The King's College shared an original story on Facebook about Wednesday Addams etc.
