King's College

The King's College admission process takes four or five steps, on the Year level your son/daughter falls under depending on that. Parents/guardian must understand their admissions process before completing the online application form.

• 1. Complete an application form
• At King's College to apply for a place, the parents need to fill out their online application form, attach copies of supporting documents and pay the application fee of NZD $320. The costs of considering the application this Application Fee covers and is non-refundable.
• With the application the following items are required. Please note that for your son/daughter if you are applying to join King's more than two years in advance, to submit the below documentation you are not required:
• a. A copy of the prospective student’s (the “student”) New Zealand passport/birth certificate or if not born in New Zealand, a copy of their passport.
• b. Proof of residency/eligibility to study in New Zealand (if applicable).
• c. A copy of the student’s most recent school report with teachers’ comment.
• d. Completed student CV.
• e. A copy of any educational assessments.
• f. A recent head and shoulders photograph of the student is preferable but not essential.
• Note: Applying online does not automatically grant your son/daughter an offer of a place.
• 2. The interview and College tour
• To attend an interview with their Head of Admissions the prospective students will be invited, which is an integral part of the school's admissions process. Following the interview, a tour of the College and its facilities the prospective students and their families will be given. At King’s College throughout the year families are welcome to attend Campus Tours held regularly. On their Events page upcoming dates are listed.
• 3. Offer of place to successful applicants
• In considering applications, a range of criteria the King’s College takes into account including but not limited to:
• a. Interview outcome.
• b. Interests, activities and academic record of the student.
• c. Family or other association with the College.
• A significant proportion of boarding students the King’s College seeks to retain, have a roll that the broader population of New Zealand reflects and to support the College’s Anglican and Christian heritage. For boys to join the College in Year 9 and girls to join the College in Year 11 the King’s College has a preference, and a strong preference that at the beginning of each academic year new enrolments start.
• Notwithstanding the above criteria, at the sole discretion of the College any offer of place is made.
• To successful candidates an offer of a place will be emailed.
• 4. Accepting our offer of place
• To secure the offered place, parents must complete, sign and return the Admission Agreement form, Direct Debit form and along with payment of the Enrolment Fee the Medical form and before the offer expiry date, the King’s College Old Collegians’ Association (KCOCA) Lifetime Membership Fee.
• Following receipt of fees and the completed forms, before the student starts their journey at King’s College the College will let you know what needs to be done.
• 5. Year 9 placement examinations
• At King’s College all students who have accepted Year 9 place must sit the Placement Examinations. In Term 4 the Placement Examinations usually occur late.
