Established in 1922, King's School, founded by Colonel Charles Thomas Major, emerged as an independent preparatory school, separating from King's College Secondary School. Colonel Major, a distinguished figure born in 1869, played a pivotal role, serving as the first Headmaster of King's College and later facilitating the establishment of King's School on its Remuera site in 1922. The school's initial vision centered on Colonel Major's high ideals, charity work, and commitment to education. Aligned with the Anglican Church, King's School, inaugurated with 164 boys, including 37 boarders, continues its legacy under the governance of the Bishop of Auckland and the Board of Governors.
