To give Korean students in Hong Kong with continuing education based on the Korean curriculum, the Korean Ministry of Education formally recognized and supported the founding of the Korean School in 1988, which gave rise to the Korean International School. The Korean community, represented by the Korean Residents' Association of HK and the Korean Consul General at the time, approached the Hong Kong government to request a permanent facility to meet the growing demand. As a result of their successful request, construction at the Sai Wan Ho campus began in 1992, and the Korean International School was established in 1993. 1994 saw the first class relocation.
