Established in 1869, La Martiniere Girls College, Lucknow was located in Moti Mahal premises. It started its operations with less than 100 students and staff. Currently, it has 2700 students including 110 boarders and 247 staff. Since 2015 the school has been rated in the top 10-all girls boarding school in India. It has also always ranked as one of the leading schools in India. The school was founded by, Major General Claude Martin, a French officer. He realized the value of formal education and set aside his vast portion of his estate for the founding of schools in Kolkata, Lucknow, and France. La Martiniere Girls College, Lucknow was one of the schools he left his impact on.
