It was the early 1900s when Miss Maud Chignell decided to establish a new school in the burgeoning suburb of New Barnet. Inspired by the area's growth, and a railway system that was fast changing the landscape, Miss Chignell set out to create an institution that would be the cornerstone of educational excellence in the region. Thus was born Lyonsdown School, named after the Lyonsdown Estate that had been sold off for development. The original house that served as the school's first location was built in the early years of the century. From there, Miss Chignell oversaw the creation of an educational community that would come to be known for its innovative methods and top-notch teaching staff. Though it's unclear exactly where Lyonsdown was first located, there is evidence to suggest that Miss Chignell established the school on another site before settling in at Gloucester Road in 1906. As the suburb continued to develop and expand, the school moved to 3 Richmond Road, where it has been situated ever since. Throughout its more than century-long history, Lyonsdown has remained dedicated to providing a world-class education to generations of students. Its proud legacy, inspired by the pioneering vision of its founder, continues to shape the lives of young people today, in the same way that it did all those years ago.
