A State School was established in Macclesfield on 3rd May 1909, initially accommodating six pupils at the local hall, under the leadership of Head Teacher Miss J Walker. The first recorded meeting of the Committee took place on 7th August 1911, with W. Marr serving as President and W. Bolduan as Secretary and Treasurer. The minutes from this inaugural meeting include a motion to explore the possibility of acquiring medals to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII. The Department secured a lease for the hall for a duration of 20 years. Following multiple requests for a dedicated school building, the committee organized a delegation to meet with the appropriate minister in 1928. E.G. Risk was appointed as the first teacher at the newly established school, which was built on land sold to the Department by H.J. Legg. The official opening of the new building occurred on 4th December 1929, conducted by George Knox. A request for a school residence was made in May 1950, and it was first occupied in September 1952. Electricity was installed in the school in July 1964, and an additional room was constructed in 1967. In 1951, a Mothers’ Club was established. The school celebrated its centenary in 2009, and it remains a challenge for the school community to maintain the same optimism, commitment, and dedication to providing the best educational opportunities for current and future students of Macclesfield PS.
