School History & Details

Macleans College is a co-educational public high school in Auckland's Eastern Beach. The MacLean family inspired the school's name. Robert and Every Maclean emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand. The family cultivated the property near Howick, where the school is now located, as well as the neighboring government-controlled reserves. The school was founded in 1980 by then-Governor General Sir David Beattie with a student body of 199. Colin Prentice was the inaugural principal, who eventually became the head of World Vision in New Zealand, and was succeeded by his deputy, Allan McDonald, in 1989.
