In 1995, a more significant change started when Estelle Kassebaum, also known as "Dr. K," became the new principal. She redesigned Marian Catholic High School with great zeal and a vision to revitalize and rebuild the institution. She also devised a plan to relocate it to a new, larger, and more stunning campus in East Chula Vista.
The school was renamed Mater Dei Catholic High School in honor of "Marian," who was elevated to the position of "Mother of God." The Crusader mascot, spirit, and tradition persisted in this private Catholic school even after the name was changed.
Serving kindergarten through second grade, Mater Dei Juan Diego Academy opened its doors on the Mater Dei Catholic High School campus in 2015. TK–8th grade is served by Mater Dei Catholic Elementary nowadays. We are the first Catholic school in San Diego County to provide a dual language immersion program that is 50/50 in Spanish and English. Half of the instruction given to students is in Spanish, and the other half is in English.
