School History & Details

The Queen Mary's Foundation, which featured a Kindergarten for girls in the High School on Upper Forster Street in 1893, is responsible for Mayfield School's founding as a school. Mayfield, a home on Sutton Road, was purchased in 1924 and converted into a mixed kindergarten and a prep school for ladies' high school. The governors of Queen Mary's Schools purchased Mayfield House on Sutton Road in 1924, and it was converted into a mixed kindergarten and a prep school for the girls' high school. The house housed the junior section of the high school for twenty years. Mayfield was converted to an Independent Preparatory School following the 1944 Education Act.
