School History & Details

Mentone Girls' Grammar School was founded in 1899 as the Mentone High School for Girls by the four Simpson sisters at "Cobbalanna," located on Como Parade in Mentone. The name "Cobbalanna" is now designated for the new Senior College. In 1924, the institution was re-established as Mentone Girls' Grammar School (St. Margaret's) under the guidance of Evaline Mary Pearson, who was the headmistress at that time. In 1962, Mentone Girls' Grammar formed an affiliation with the Church of England, leading to the incorporation of the bishop's mitre into the school crest. Various areas of the campus are named in honor of recent headmistresses and headmaster, such as the Prudence Lewty Hall, which commemorates former headmistress Prudence Lewty.
