The accomplishments of Merchiston Castle School are that Merchiston graduates as a well-rounded person who has attained the maximum level of personal academic success as well as a sense of self, respect for others, and understanding of what it is to be a person of true character and integrity.  In addition, the school in 2018, 50% of the Level grades received were A*/A. Merchiston Castle School is the first independent school to obtain the STEM Nation Award from Education Scotland.

Merchiston Castle School has a number of extracurricular achievements in a variety of fields, including sports, drama, music, and more. The school offers a variety of sports and activities, with rugby union being especially popular. Over 60 Merchistonians have competed at the international level in this sport. A former student of the school's Merchistonian Football Club, which supplied three players for the first rugby international, was a founding member of the Scottish Rugby Union.
