School History & Details

Michael Park School developed from a community vision for Rudolf Steiner education in Auckland, which culminated in the school's current location opening in 1979, with kindergarten and lower school classes 1-4. The location was a swampy wasteland at the time, but it had historically been used as an important food collecting area by local ngti what iwi. Michael Park School is now an integrated area school that educates children in kindergarten (ages 4-6), primary school (ages 6-14), and high school (ages 14-18). The partnership of parents, whanau, and the wider community enabled the successful construction of the current well-developed campus. The land repair, regeneration, and care for this place that marked the school's early years remain key impulses in the school's life. Michael Park School is  Auckland's only Steiner school. The Steiner concept promotes slightly later growth and a creative environment than typical state education. The school has a policy prohibiting the use of IT devices in lessons for younger students.
