The late Reverend Eliyah Thsetsan Phuntsog of the Moravian Church in Ladakh (Jammu & Kashmir State) established the Moravian Institute in 1963. He met some of the Tibetan refugees who had recently fled their homeland over the Himalayas while working on the Bible Society of India's revision of the New Testament in Tibetan in Dehra Dun District. With financial assistance from the Moravian church, Rev. Phuntsog opened a day school for kids and literacy programs for adults at the request of these Tibetan refugees. In spite of expectations to the contrary, the number of kids applying to the school continued to rise. This, together with the overall ongoing poverty of the Tibetan exiles, forced Rev. Phuntsog to take care of the children's housing and food as well. Thus, a boarding home was established in 1965 and was supported by the Moravian Church worldwide starting in 1967.
Activate your community. One of the most cherished basic values at Moravian is a strong sense of community.
Aim for PERFORMANCE. Excellence is the visible result of having a clear vision, putting in a lot of effort to reach one's objectives, and persevering despite setbacks.
The school's campus is a lovely refuge that skillfully combines education and nature, nestled amidst lush foliage. It offers a setting that is favorable for learning.
