Providing the Mt Eden community with a genuine 'Kiwi' education and school experience for more than 140 years, Mt Eden Normal Primary School is a highly performing Decile 10 school located in Auckland, New Zealand. Maungawhau, or the volcanic cone of Mount Eden, is closely associated with the school. The whau (cork) tree, which was indigenous to the mountain, is the source of the name. Because of our strong ties to the University of Auckland Faculty of Education, our school is a Normal School and serves as a practice and demonstration site for teacher preparation. Schools that serve as models of good practice are referred to as "Normal" in many nations; the term comes from the French word "école normale," which was first used in the sixteenth century.
The diversity of nationalities among our student body is valued by Mt Eden Normal Primary School. We are proud of our affiliation with the university and our standing as an institution that has a long tradition of mentoring, preparing, and investing in new teachers.
