Mr. Frank Marchbank established Mowden Hall School in Darlington in 1935. At the beginning of the war, the school was relocated to Fallbarrow, Windermere, and in 1945 it acquired its current, spectacular location at Newton Hall, close to Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Mowden Hall was once a conventional, all-boys boarding preparatory school, but it quickly gained a reputation as one of the top institutions in the north. Since 1982, Mowden Hall has admitted females, and in 1993, it launched a Pre-Prep Department. Currently, Mowden Hall is a completely coeducational school that offers a Nursery for students ages three to four, a Pre-Prep Department for students ages four to eight (including Reception and Years 1 and 2), and a Preparatory School for students ages eight to thirteen (Years three to eight).
The mission of Mowden Hall is to offer top-notch instruction, enabling each child to reach their full potential in a variety of academic, cultural, and athletic endeavours. Above all, they think that Mowdenians grow up happy and honourably, with self-respect, confidence, and a strong sense of responsibility and consideration for others and the larger community, because of their high standards, first-rate pastoral care, and traditional family values.
Located in the parish of Bywell near Stocksfield, Northumberland, England, Mowden Hall School is a coeducational, boarding preparatory school situated roughly 11 miles (18 km) west of Newcastle. Ther...View moreView Less
