School History & Details

The main structure of Murrumbeena Primary School was constructed gradually. In 1903, it started as an extension of Rosstown School, which is now Carnegie. It served the district's youthful residents out of the Presbyterian Church Hall. The present location was bought in 1902, and 250 students and 5 staff members moved in April 1917 after it was finished. The grounds were expanded in 1920, 1923, and 1924 when the school bought adjacent properties that were put up for sale. The present Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden building and classrooms were constructed in its place when the home and surrounding grounds were acquired in recent years.
